Arsene Wenger again backs Jack

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has once again backed Jack Wilshere to come good for Arsenal amidst suggestions that the club should have brought back Cesc Fabregas instead of allowing him to join Chelsea.

Wilshere is regarded as one of the highly talented youngsters of this English generation but his career has been plagued by injuries. The young midfielder has ruled out until the middle of January with yet another injury. Wenger has also witnessed Fabregas continue his impeccable form in the Premier League. He was one of the important players when he left for Barcelona a few years ago. Now, it has already secured 12 assists to his name even before the middle of the campaign.

Fabregas is on course to beating Thierry Henry’s assist record. A recent statistic showed that Fabregas has more assists for Chelsea in just 16 matches than Jack Wilshere has had in his entire Arsenal career, which totals almost 100 league matches. Fabregas has also scored two goals, while Wilshere has found it difficult to get going because of persistent injury problems. Wenger has revealed that Arsenal may have been Fabregas’ first choice when he decided that he was leaving Barcelona, but Arsenal did not choose to sign him for £27 million since they already had the likes of Mesut Ozil and Jack Wilshere.

“Certainly, yes. But when he left we bought Mesut Ozil. We have Santi Cazorla, Jack Wilshere and we were not in the need to buy offensive players,” said Wenger. “Cesc Fabregas is playing so well for us. What I like is as a person he is a professional. He is a world champion, he comes here to play in the Capital One Cup and plays like that. That is the character I like,” said Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho after another spectacular display by Fabregas in the Capital One Cup against Derby.
